PDMA issues flood alert for Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi

The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has raised a flood alert on Chenab, Jhelum and Ravi rivers and associated channels, indicating that floods may occur from July 20 to July 24.

As per PDMA, a significant rise in river flows in the state is anticipated due to the forecasted heavy rains in the monsoon season. Low to moderate levels of flooding are feared at Marala Headworks in the Chenab River for the stated period.

Flash flood alerts have also been raised by PDMA for various rivers and channels in Punjab, which are tributaries or feeders to the Ravi and Chenab rivers.

These rivers include Bein, Basantar, Deg, Aik, Palkhu, Bhimber, Halsi and Dora nullahs, where floods may be triggered by heavy rainfall.

Moreover, flash floods are also likely to happen in Rod Kohis of Dera Ghazi Khan due to the said reason. Urban flooding is expected in Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sargodha, Okara, Sahiwal, Bahawalnagar and Rawalpindi divisions owing to heavy rains.
