ISLAMABAD: At least 38 incidents of bird strikes have been reported in the first half of the year by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), according to media reports.
Lahore Airport leads with 9 cases, with Multan Airport with 7 cases, followed by Karachi with five such cases.
However, Islamabad and Peshawar have reported four cases each, with Sialkot with three cases and Quetta with one case of bird collision with an aircraft.
International Airports, including Jeddah, Dammam, Kuala Lumpur, and Sharjah, also recorded such cases. The report further states that the majority of bird collisions, 27 in total, involved PIA’s Airbus aircraft, while 10 incidents were linked to Boeing 777 jets.
Eight bird hits happened during the PIA flight’s landing phase, while seven bird hits happened in June alone.
According to the report, bird strikes have cost Pakistani local and international airlines millions of dollars in lost revenue.
Despite the fact that bird repellent systems are common at airports throughout the globe to guarantee safe aircraft operations, it is concerning that none have been installed at any airport in Pakistan.
