BAKU: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the Presidential Palace in Baku.
Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir was also present on the occasion.
According to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked the Azerbaijani President for inviting him to attend the Victory Day ceremony and extended his heartfelt congratulations to the government and people of Azerbaijan on this historic occasion.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Azerbaijan’s historic victory in the 44-day Nagorno-Karabakh Liberation War against Armenia is not only a symbol of valor but also a ray of hope for the oppressed peoples, especially the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine, who are struggling for their right to self-determination.
During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed the comprehensive bilateral relations and agreed to expand further ties in the fields of politics, trade, energy, investment, connectivity and defense cooperation.
The Prime Minister extended an invitation to President Ilham Aliyev to visit Pakistan at his convenience, which the President accepted with open arms.
Shahbaz Sharif commended President Aliyev for signing the peace agreement with Armenia, saying that this move would pave the way for lasting peace and stability in the region.
President Ilham Aliyev thanked Pakistan for its continued support in Azerbaijan’s just struggle against the illegal occupation of the Karabakh region.
He also appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace and stability in South Asia.
According to the spokesperson, the two countries agreed to continue joint efforts to further enhance mutual cooperation and transform it into a strategic partnership.
