ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the abolition of the son’s quota for the recruitment of a family member of an employee who dies while on duty.
Sources said that Prime Minister Shehbaz approved changes in the employment policy under the Prime Minister’s Relief Package, adding that the policy earlier allowed offering government jobs to any family member of a deceased government employee.
The Prime Minister has now approved changes to the policy, effectively barring children of deceased government employees from getting government jobs.
The policy change is reportedly in line with the Supreme Court’s decision, after which the Establishment Division has issued instructions to all ministries and divisions to implement these changes.
Sources confirmed that all other benefits and facilities available to government employees under the Prime Minister’s Relief Package will continue to be in place.
The decision will not apply to children of martyrs of law enforcement agencies or those who sacrificed their lives in the war on terrorism. Moreover, the decision will not affect the recruitment of heirs of government employees who were hired before the policy change.
Earlier, in a similar development, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government had abolished the recruitment of government employees under the son quota system.
The provincial government has issued an official notification of the change in the recruitment process.
According to the notification, the rules for recruitment, promotion and transfer of employees in the province have been amended. Clause 4 of Rule 10 has been completely abolished while clause 2 has been partially abolished.
These clauses were earlier related to the recruitment of children of employees who had passed away or were considered unfit for work. Under the previous system, jobs were provided to children of deceased or disabled employees.
