LAHORE: The Punjab government has agreed to the proposal to provide interest-free loans of Rs 100 billion to the farmers before wheat cultivation.
A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz regarding the support of wheat farmers.
The Chief Minister ordered a reduction in the cost of agricultural inputs before wheat sowing in Punjab.
Maryam Nawaz added that wheat farmers will not be left alone; the government will provide full support to them.
The Punjab Chief Minister, while directing to ensure ample availability of fertilizer before wheat sowing, said that targeted subsidy should be given to small wheat farmers for relief.
The meeting was briefed that the timely sowing of wheat is necessary for better production in Punjab.
A subsidy of Rs 63 billion was given to farmers in Punjab during 2 months. Farmers have obtained interest-free loans of Rs 50 billion through the Kisan Card.
The Briefing noted that a subsidy of Rs 13 billion has been given under the Punjab Chief Minister’s Wheat Support Program.
