Public holiday for Karachi

KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab has announced a public for the port city on Saturday (June 29).

The Sindh government has given a public holiday for tomorrow on the occasion of the annual Urs of Abdullah Shah Ghazi.

All the private and public offices of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (LMC) will remain closed on Saturday except for essential services.

Earlier, Sindh Gov­ernor Kamran Tessori inaugurated the 1,294th annual urs celebrations of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi, the renowned Sufi saint of the subcontinent, on Thursday (June 27).

The Sindh governor and the provincial Minister for Auqaf and Religious Affairs, Syed Riaz Hussain Shah Sherazi laid a wreath on the saint’s shrine. Both offered prayers for the development of the country. Later, the governor distributed clothes, water, juices, and meals among pilgrims.

According to the Auqaf Department, the urs will be a three-day event and annual celebrations will continue until Saturday, June 29. According to the statement, the celebration includes Mehfil-e-Sama, Mehfil Na’at, and a special Milad Mehfil for women.
