LAHORE: The Punjab provincial government has taken an important decision regarding the issuance of driving licenses for minors and has approved the issuance of driving licenses at the age of 16.
After the cabinet approval, the home department sent a summary of this decision to the law department to issue a gazette notification, which will officially publish it on Monday.
According to reports, under the new decision, youths of the age of 16 will only be eligible to drive motorcycles, while they will be allowed to carry only one passenger on the motorcycle.
The aim of this decision is said to be to allow young citizens to drive in an organized manner and to promote awareness of traffic rules.
According to officials, sixteen-year-old license holders will not be allowed to drive rickshaws or other heavy or public transport under any circumstances.
The home department clarified that this facility is only of a limited nature, its aim is to train the youth in safe driving at the initial stage.

Following the decision, the relevant institutions have been instructed to inform the traffic police and licensing authorities about the new rules so that there is no ambiguity in implementation.
The new age limit will come into effect immediately after the gazette notification is issued.
