LAHORE: The Punjab government has officially notified the administrative revamp of the province, which would now comprise 10 divisions, 41 districts, and 216 tehsils.
Punjab Revenue Department, by order of Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider, has issued a notification in this regard.
The gazette announcement notified the establishment of Gujrat as a new division with four districts; Gujrat, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, and Wazirbad under its jurisdiction.
Similarly, Murree and Talagang had been given the status of full-fledged districts under Sections 5 and 6 of the Punjab Land Revenue Act, 1967, the notification added.
The aforementioned act allows the provincial government to divide the province into divisions for administrative convenience.
The new divisions include Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujarat, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Multan, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur.
After the revamping of the divisions, districts, and tehsils, it was decided that the electoral constituencies in Punjab would be revamped.
