Punjab young doctors end strike

LAHORE: Following the Lahore High Court’s orders, the Young Doctors Association (YDA) in Punjab has called off their protest.

Since June 15, the Young Doctors Association (YDA) has gone on strike at all Punjab government hospitals protesting the detention of certain doctors under the guise of a fire at a Sahiwal teaching hospital.

Dr. Shoaib Niazi, president of the Young Doctors Association, announced that the group is calling off their continuing strike for one day. He said, “We will present our position today in front of the LHC.”

The Lahore High Court’s Acting Chief Justice Shujaat Ali Khan heard a plea from the Young Doctors Association on Thursday asking for an investigation into the Sahiwal tragedy.

During the hearing, Acting Chief Justice Shujaat Ali Khan expressed concern upon seeing the doctors in court, remarking that doctors should be in hospitals, not courts.

Acting Chief Justice Shujaat Ali Khan asked them to perform their duties and provide a guarantee that they would end the strike.
