LAHORE: The provincial capital experienced record-breaking rainfall today, with 350 millimeters falling in just three hours, surpassing a 44-year-old record.
The heavy rains have led to flooding in several low-lying areas, including Tajpura, China Scheme, and Lakshmi Chowk, which were submerged due to the downpour that began early in the morning.
The heavy rainfall has caused significant traffic disruptions in Lahore, with roads swamped making commuting difficult and power outages affecting several areas.
Across the country, cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sheikhupura, Pakpattan, Kasur, and Jehlum also experienced rainfall.

The Met Office forecasts continued violent monsoon rains from August 1 to 6, with occasional breaks. Strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are expected to affect northern parts from the night of July 31, and central and southern regions from August 2.
Under this weather system, scattered heavy to very heavy rain, along with thunderstorms, is anticipated in cities such as Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, and many others from August 1 to 6. Heavy rain with thunderstorms is also expected in Bahawalpur, Multan, and surrounding areas from August 2 to 6.
