MUZAFFARABAD: A major development has emerged regarding the future of refugee seats in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), with the federal government reportedly showing significant flexibility on the issue.
According to sources, instead of abolishing refugee seats altogether, the federal government is considering a proposal to reduce their number, a move that is being viewed as a positive step towards resolving the long-standing dispute. An initial proposal to reduce six refugee seats associated with the Kashmir Valley is currently under consideration.
Sources said that the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir will soon be informed of the federal government’s position and may establish contact with the Joint Public Action Committee to discuss the matter. The AJK premier is expected to convey the federal message to the committee as efforts continue to build consensus on electoral reforms.
Meanwhile, important decisions regarding electoral reforms in Azad Kashmir are likely to be taken during the All Parties Conference scheduled for tomorrow.
