NEPAL: Renowned Pakistani climber Sajid Ali Sadpara reached the summit of Dhaulagiri, the seventh-highest peak in the world, without oxygen or porter assistance, in Nepal.
He was a member of the 13-person rope-fixing crew from Seven Summit Tracks (SST), a Nepalese tour operator, that ascended the 8,167-meter peak on Saturday morning.
The company posted on social media, saying, “We are happy to report that a rope-fixing team led by Lakpa Sherpa, also known as Makalu Lakpa, reached the summit of Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167m) successfully.”
According to the SST, the expedition team had already fixed ropes up to 8,050 meters and started their last push for the summit when the weather was favorable.
“The first confirmed ascent of Mt. Dhaulagiri in the Spring 2025 season was accomplished by a team of six climbers and seven Sherpa guides who arrived at the summit at 9:35 AM,” the SST adds.
The tour operator praised the strength and coordination of the committed Sherpa team as well as all of the climbers.
Sajid Ali Sadpara reached the summit of the mountain “without supplemental oxygen and completely unsupported,” according to Karrar Haidri, secretary of the Alpine Club of Pakistan.
“A momentous occasion for Pakistan and the international mountaineering community,” Haidri continued.
