Sindh announces holiday on November 1 for Diwali celebrations

KARACHI: The Sindh government announced a holiday on November 1, 2024, for the Hindu community across the province on the occasion of Diwali – the festival of lights.

According to the notification issued on Monday, “The Government of Sindh declares 01st November 2024 (Friday) as Holiday for Hindu Community only on the occasion of DIWALI.”

The annual holiday will apply to all offices including autonomous, and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils under the administrative control of the Government of Sindh, the notification reads.

The holiday, announced for Hindu employees and workers in the province, will allow them to participate in festivities, with advance salaries also provided to them before the end of this month.

According to the 2023 census, the population of Hindus stands at 4.9 million, comprising 8.8 percent of Sindh’s population.
