ISLAMABAD: Prominent Pakistani Islamic scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel remembered former Prime Minister Imran Khan in high terms, as the latter has been behind bars since August 2023.
The renowned Deoband leader appeared in an interview with journalist Irshad Bhatti and described Khan as a “truthful, honest and pious man”. Maulana Jameel, who is known for his spiritual and motivational speeches, praised the cricketer-turned-politician for his contributions and history in prison.
When asked why he did not meet Imran Khan in Adiala Jail, the Maulana said that he was not allowed to meet the former prime minister along with several others. However, he said that if the authorities allow him, he would meet Imran Khan.
The Maulana’s words come as a strong show of support for Imran Khan, with the cleric not only praising his character but also expressing his desire to stand by him in this difficult time.
Maulana Tariq Jameel had a close relationship with Prime Minister Imran Khan during his tenure, as he often visited him at the Prime Minister’s Office. Khan also warmly welcomed the religious scholar and his delegation and sought personal guidance from him.
