KARACHI: The Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has announced a 10 percent increase in goods transport fares following the recent rise in petroleum product prices.
President of the alliance, Malik Shahzad Awan, said transporters across the country strongly condemn the increase in fuel prices, calling it a major burden on the sector.
He stated that the continuous rise in petroleum prices is contributing to inflation and adversely affecting businesses, adding that many people are facing unemployment due to what he termed unfavorable economic policies.
Malik Shahzad Awan also demanded the abolition of challans imposed by law enforcement agencies, including the National Highways and Motorway Police and traffic police, arguing that such penalties further increase operational costs for transporters.
Transporters warn that the fare hike may lead to higher prices of essential goods, as increased logistics costs are likely to be passed on to consumers.
