Tremors felt in Balochistan’s Pishin and surrounding areas

6.2 quake jolts Sulawesi, no Tsunami alert issued

PISHIN: A magnitude 4.4 on the Richter scale earthquake was felt in District Pishin of Balochistan and the surrounding areas on Tuesday morning, according to media reports.

The earthquake had a magnitude of 4.4 on the Richter scale, according to the Seismological Center. The epicenter was located 12 kilometers southeast of Pishin, at a shallow depth of just 12 kilometers beneath the surface.

The tremors caused fear among the local population, but no casualties or property damage have been reported so far. The local administration is on high alert in case of any emergency.

Earlier, the port city once again witnessed three more earthquakes with intensities ranging from 2 to 3.1 magnitude on Tuesday night, according to the Seismic Monitoring Centre of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Since June 1, a total of 26 tremors have been felt in the city and making it the fourth consecutive day of seismic activity, said the seismological centre.

Chief Meteorologist Amir Haider Laghari warns of more tremors in the forthcoming days as the movement of the plates continues.

Landhi, Quaidabad, Malir, and surrounding neighbourhoods are the affected areas where the jolts were felt the most, and the tremors are raising concerns among residents.  No significant damage or injuries have been reported.
