ISLAMABAD: Pakistani authorities have taken important decisions to overcome the problem of delay in passport printing.
As per details, the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports has decided to purchase 20 new laminators and as many printers, sources familiar with the development said.
He added that the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports also decided to purchase five modern ARPMs and two e-passport printers.
Sources added that 1,000 passports can be printed in an hour using the new printers and laminators.
After the purchase of new machinery, the daily passport printing capacity is likely to be increased from 22,000 to 55,000.
Sources said that the passport authority has also stocked lamination papers for the next six months.
It is expected to start clearing the backlog by the last week of September. Directorate General of Immigration and Passport also decided to buy printers twice a year to increase printing capacity. The authorities also decided to develop a new database.
