Govt to start printing 60,000 passports daily by September end, NA told

Passport operations resume at Pakistan Embassies

ISLAMABAD: Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said that new machinery and software would be installed to increase the printing capacity of passports up to 60,000 per day by the end of September.

Responding to a ‘Calling Attention Notice’ in the National Assembly, the Law Minister reiterated that the introduction of the new system would help clear the existing backlog of applications.

The previous PDM government ordered to importation new system and the process continued under the interim government, he said, adding that the present system was installed in 2004 having the capacity to print up to 26,000 passports per day.

Federal Minister informed NA that the number of Pakistani missions had increased from 20 to 92 and some 300 centers had been established in the country to receive the applications.

He assured the National Assembly that the issue would be resolved by the end of September.
