MUMBAI: In India, the body of young emerging Punjabi singer Inder Kaur was recovered from a canal, after which the police took the body into custody and shifted it to a hospital for a postmortem.
After the incident, the family has made serious allegations and called it a case of kidnapping and murder. According to the police, Inder Kaur had left home for shopping on the night of May 13 but did not return. After a long search, her body was found in the Neelon canal, which was later identified by the family.
The family has alleged that a man, Sukhwinder Singh, who allegedly wanted to marry Inder Kaur, became enraged by her refusal. The accused, along with his associates, forcibly took the singer away and later killed her and threw her body in the canal. And has now fled abroad.
The family has accused the police of delaying action and said that if timely steps had been taken, the accused would not have had a chance to escape. On the other hand, the police say that a case has been registered and raids are being conducted to find the absconding accused.
