Cricketer Damien Martin makes miraculous recovery from meningitis

SYDNEY: Former Australian cricketer Damien Martin has made a remarkable and astonishing recovery, which doctors have described as a “miracle”.

He was admitted to a Gold Coast hospital on Boxing Day in a critical condition after suffering from meningitis, where he had to be put into a coma.

However, there has been a dramatic change in Damien Martin’s condition over the past 48 hours. He has come out of the coma, is conscious and is also talking to his family.

Close friend and former captain Adam Gilchrist said in a statement issued on behalf of Martin’s family that this development is unbelievable for everyone.

According to Adam Gilchrist, what has happened in the last two days is truly indescribable. Damien can now talk, his recovery has been extraordinarily fast. His family considers it nothing less than a miracle.

The statement added that doctors hope that Damien Martin will soon be transferred from the ICU to another ward of the hospital, which is a clear indication of his rapidly improving health. Although further treatment and monitoring will continue, the overall situation is encouraging.

Damien Martin’s wife Amanda thanked all the fans, friends and media and said that she is sure that the prayers, love and well-wishes received from all over the world played a significant role in Damien’s recovery.

According to her, the amount of support and sincerity we felt gave us encouragement and we feel that this same strength proved to be helpful for Damien as well.

It should be noted that Damien Martin played 67 Test matches for Australia between 1992 and 2006. He returned to the team after a six-year break in 2000 and became an important part of the invincible Australian team under the leadership of Steve Waugh. He was also part of the Australian team that won the 2003 ODI World Cup.
