India secure draw in fourth Test against England

India secure draw in fourth Test against England

MANCHESTER: An incredible batting effort saw India draw a hard-fought fourth Test against England on Sunday, denying the hosts a series win in the process.

After losing two wickets before scoring a single in their second innings, India remained fearless despite trailing England by 311 runs and batted for just two more wickets over five sessions. They closed the final day at 425-4 to secure a draw at Old Trafford.

A bold century from captain Shubman Gill — his fourth of the series — and unbeaten centuries from Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar late on gave the home crowd little to shout about a difficult day for the hosts.

England tried their best with the bat, scoring 669 runs in their first innings — their fifth-highest Test total. A disappointing effort with the ball ultimately secured them victory.

The hard-fought series against England remains 2-1. The hosts will need to avoid defeat in the final Test, starting Thursday at The Oval in London, to seal the series.
