Mohammad Amir granted British citizenship, receives UK passport

LONDON: Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir has officially become a British citizen after being issued a United Kingdom passport.

According to reports, Amir had applied for British citizenship several years ago and has now received his passport after completing all legal requirements and the stipulated process.

Amir’s wife, Narjis Khan, is already a British citizen, which reportedly supported the process of his settlement in the United Kingdom.

Following the development, Mohammad Amir is now eligible to participate in franchise leagues that have restrictions on Pakistani players, including the Indian Premier League, under his British citizenship status.

It is worth mentioning that the former Pakistan pacer announced his retirement from international cricket for the second time last year.

Mohammad Amir represented Pakistan in all formats of the game and was part of the squad that won the ICC Champions Trophy 2017.
