According to the Sri Lanka Department of Meteorology, a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal could bring rain to Colombo. As a result, thunderstorms are likely in the afternoon. The match will take place at R. Premadasa Stadium, where the toss is scheduled for 7 pm local time.
Forecasters expect warm and humid weather earlier in the day. However, rain chances may rise to 70 percent later. Therefore, officials fear delays or a shortened game if heavy showers arrive before the start.
Despite this risk, the stadium has strong rain-handling facilities. Ground staff can cover the entire field, not just the pitch. Moreover, the drainage system allows quick removal of water. Usually, the ground becomes ready within an hour after rain stops.
Meanwhile, rain may also disturb India’s practice session planned a day before the match. So far, most ICC Men’s T20 World Cup matches in Sri Lanka have avoided weather interruptions. Still, officials remain alert due to changing conditions.
Both teams currently have four points each in Group A. However, India leads due to a better net run rate. If the Pakistan India match rain causes a washout, both sides will receive one point. There is no reserve day for group matches, which makes the weather even more important.
