ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s mobile phone industry witnessed notable growth in July 2024, with a 0.54% increase in Next Generation Mobile Service (NGMS) penetration, reaching 56.15% by the end of the month.
This indicates a steady adoption of advanced mobile technologies among the population. Meanwhile, the country’s cellular teledensity remained stable at 79%, reflecting a consistent level of mobile phone usage.
A breakdown of the mobile operators’ performance reveals varying trends. Jazz, the leading operator, saw a decline in its 3G user base, dropping from 3.041 million to 2.897 million.
However, its 4G user base grew from 47.295 million to 47.993 million. Zong and Telenor also experienced a decline in 3G subscribers, but their 4G user bases increased. Ufone’s 3G users decreased slightly, while its 4G users saw a modest growth.
In terms of consumer complaints, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) received a total of 19,188 complaints in July 2024. The majority of these complaints (99%) were resolved, demonstrating the authority’s effectiveness in addressing consumer grievances.
The complaints were primarily directed against cellular mobile operators, with Jazz receiving the most complaints (6,783), followed by Zong (6,362), Telenor (3,198), and Ufone (2,211).
Additionally, the PTA received complaints against basic telephony and internet service providers, with a resolution rate of 96.9%.
