ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority will officially activate its firewall for mobile internet service from November 22 (Friday) in a move to regulate internet activities in Pakistan, sources told Daily Ausaf on Thursday.

After the activation of the firewall, the internet speed is expected to be disturbed and will slow down internet browsing.

Sources further added that the federal government has decided to partially suspend internet and mobile services in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and adjoining cities in the wake of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) November 24 protest.

The development came after the authorities geared up ahead of the former ruling party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) planned demonstration in Islamabad on Sunday.

Apart from suspending cellular service, the Islamabad district administration has imposed Section 144 in the federal capital for two months, banning all public gatherings of five or more people, processions, rallies, and demonstrations.

Rangers and the Frontier Corps (FC) are already deployed in the federal capital and shipping containers are placed by the roadside and will be used to block major roads in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
