Samsung set to launch tri-fold smartphone in 2025

Samsung set to launch tri-fold smartphone in 2025

ISLAMABAD: Samsung plans to release its first tri-fold smartphone in the second half of 2025, following Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate, which was launched in September last year.

Reports from Korea suggest that Samsung will initially produce fewer than 300,000 units. This limited availability is due to the complex manufacturing process required for such devices. However, Samsung could increase production in the future if demand increases.

The tri-fold smartphone will reportedly come at the highest price ever for a Samsung foldable. Unlike Huawei’s Mate XT, which partially exposes the screen when folded, Samsung’s design will fully protect the folding screen. This approach improves durability, addressing a key concern with foldable devices.

The folding mechanism will also offer flexibility in display size. When unfolded on the left side, the screen will measure 10.5 inches. Extending it further to the right will expand the display to 12.4 inches, which would bring the screen size to a tablet-like level.

Samsung Display will be providing the screen for this device, ensuring compatibility with modern designs. On the downside, the device will not have an under-display camera, a decision that likely prioritizes durability and structural integrity over additional features.

That being said, there is no set launch date for this device yet, mostly because the news comes from leaks and insider information. Perhaps we will hear more about it as Samsung is expected to launch its Z series of foldables later this year in the summer.
