Islamabad Weather: New rain spell to enter federal capital, other areas

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Metreological Department (PMD) has forecasted another spell of heavy rain of monsoon in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock and Chakwal districts of Punjab’s Potohar region from July 21 (tomorrow).

Flood-Rain emergency control room has been set up at Commissioner Office Rawalpindi Division. The control room will directly keep an eye on flooding in rain drains of six districts:.

In case of an emergency urgent location will be provided and instructions will be issued, Rawalpindi’s Commissioner said.

Rescue 1122 has issued high alert of more rainfall in Rawalpindi and Islamabad from tomorrow. Preparations have been made to tackle any contingency, while special 1122 teams have been deployed in cities and adjoining areas.

District emergency officer Sibghatullah has stated that water boats and other required gadgets have been arranged at Soan river and other locations to address any rain emergency. “Special teams have also been dispatched to address flashfloods emergency.”.

He stated rain emergency was declared and section 144 enforced in Rawalpindi and requested citizens to stay away from approach rain rivers and nullahs when rain comes. “Citizens should refrain from dumping off garbage and building rubble into rain drains”, DEO told.

Rescue officer informed that the leaves of the rescue 1122 personnel have been suspended, and the district administration has set the control room and Nullah Lai and other drains are under surveillance.
