LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a new alert regarding dust, storms and rains across the province.
According to the spokesperson of PDMA Punjab, rain is likely in most districts of the province from this evening to May 12, while normal life may be affected due to strong winds and storms in some areas.
According to officials, rain is expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal and Gujranwala, rain is also expected in Sargodha, Mianwali, Sheikhupura, Gujrat, Khushab and Mandi Bahauddin.
Similarly, cloudbursts are also expected in Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Dera Ghazi Khan and surrounding areas.
The PDMA has directed the administration of the concerned districts to make advance arrangements to deal with the emergency situation.
The DG PDMA said that in view of the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, an alert has been issued to commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province, while the administration has been directed to ensure monitoring of low-lying areas, drains and rain passages.
The authorities have directed citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during strong winds and rain, and to stay away from electricity poles, wires, weak buildings, trees and signboards.
According to the PDMA, rescue agencies, municipal staff and relevant departments will remain active in the field during the rains so that immediate action can be taken in any emergency.
The authorities have appealed to citizens to follow official instructions regarding the weather situation and contact the relevant institutions immediately in case of any emergency.
