KARACHI: A severe heatwave is set to grip Sindh next week, as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) is forecasting a noticeable jump in temperatures across the province.
The Met Office says that several districts might face very harsh conditions, and it could get intense quite quickly. As per the Met Office, from May 25 to May 31, temperatures over Sindh are expected to remain about 4°C to 6°C above the usual normal.
Meteorologists also warned that some parts of interior Sindh could see heat levels creep up to around 50°C during this stretch, so the heatwave conditions in the region will likely worsen.
The weather department said that most inland areas of Sindh may stay in severe heat for most of the week. People, especially older citizens, farmers, and those who work outside, have been asked to reduce their time under direct sunlight.
They’re also advised to take precautionary steps, particularly during the peak hours in daytime, when exposure can be rough. This advisory is coming before officials describe a prolonged spell of harsh weather.
They say it could bring real problems for outdoor laborers, farming communities, and other vulnerable groups across the province, especially when the heat stays strong.
At the same time, Punjab is still dealing with unsettled weather. A rain system remains active in different areas, so conditions are not staying the same everywhere.
Even though Lahore has been seeing persistent heat, the Meteorological Department has predicted dusty winds and light rainfall in the city and nearby areas.
Weather experts noted that strong winds are likely to move across Lahore in the afternoon and evening. They added that isolated spots might also get light showers, but not everywhere will receive anything significant.
In Lahore, the minimum temperature is expected to hover near 27°C, while the maximum temperature could rise to 40°C, so the day may feel steadily heavier as it progresses.
