LAHORE: A severe heatwave alert has been issued in Punjab, as temperatures are likely to be five to seven degrees Celsius higher than normal in most districts of the province.
According to the PDMA, the severe heatwave will continue from May 25 to 31.
According to the PDMA spokesperson, the temperature in upper Punjab is likely to range from forty-two to forty-five degrees Celsius, while in southern Punjab it is likely to range from forty-seven to fifty degrees Celsius.
A significant increase in heat intensity is also expected in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sialkot and other districts. DG PDMA Umar Javed said that the weather is likely to remain hotter than usual even at night, while there is also a risk of dusty winds and storms.
Relief Commissioner Punjab Nabeel Javed has directed all commissioners and deputy commissioners to remain alert and said that the administration is fully prepared as per the instructions of the Chief Minister of Punjab.
He has appealed to the citizens to avoid direct sunlight from 10 am to 4 pm, drink plenty of water, and avoid unnecessary activities.
According to the DGPDMA, Rescue Double One Double Two has been put on high alert to deal with cases of heatstroke and dehydration, while relief camps, clean water, ORS and first aid facilities will be provided in urban areas.
