NEW DELHI: In a rare event, A 13-year-old Afghan boy landed in New Delhi from Kabul, hiding in the landing gear compartment, according to Indian media reports.
The young boy, who hails from the Kunduz province in Afghanistan, was roaming around the runways when the airport security arrested him.
The teenager was interrogated for hours by the security staff before being returned to Kabul on Monday, the report said.
The boy reportedly told authorities he made the journey out of curiosity.
The boy further said that he actually wanted to go to Iran and did not know that he had mistakenly boarded a flight to New Delhi.
He was medically examined at the Indira Gandhi Airport. The boy was miraculously fine; he did not even suffer any injuries during the dangerous flight, and his senses were also intact.
According to an Indian Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) spokesperson, the youngster was able to get away aboard Kam Airlines aircraft RQ-4401, which landed in Delhi on Sunday at about 11:10 (05:40 GMT).
He was taken aside for interrogation by the police when they discovered him wandering the runway alone.
According to reports, the child was admitted to hiding in the plane’s rear central landing gear compartment.
Following additional safety checks, the flight employees also discovered a tiny red audio speaker.
Many stowaways who survive such incidents are frequently unconscious during descent, placing them at risk of dying when the landing gear is dropped.
