Bangladesh universities shut as energy crisis deepens

DHAKA: The Bangladesh government has decided to close all universities across the country from March 9 due to the growing energy crisis.

According to the Reuters news agency, the government has taken this step to save electricity and fuel, while it has also decided to start the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays early.

According to the report, the ongoing conflict in the Middle East has affected the global energy market, as a result of which the fuel and electricity crisis in Bangladesh has intensified.

Government officials say that the aim of closing universities is to reduce energy consumption so that the demand for electricity in the country can be controlled.

According to experts, if tensions in the region continue, its effects on South Asia’s energy and economy could be more significant.
