TEHRAN: The former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is alive and safe as joint US-Israeli attacks target Iran’s top leadership and military assets, according to a Turkish state agency, quoting a close aide.
“I am in touch with him. All is good,” the aide, who asked for anonymity, told the Turkish state agency.
“A building related to his security detail was struck yesterday. Three of his bodyguards, members of the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps), have been killed. His own residence remained unaffected and was not targeted, 100 meters away from that building,” the aide explained.
Earlier, it was reported that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the former Iranian President, had been killed in an Israeli-US airstrike. He had served as the Iranian President from 2005 till 2013.
Moreover, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s wife, Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, 79, also died in the hospital while undergoing treatment.
According to Iranian media, Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh was admitted to the hospital with serious injuries in the same attack that killed her husband, Ayatollah Khamenei.
She was receiving medical treatment in the hospital, but she could not survive and passed away. Ayatollah Khamenei’s wife was rarely seen in public.
Iranian officials say that other members of Khamenei’s family were also martyred in the Israeli attack, including a daughter, son-in-law, and a grandson.
Ayatollah Khamenei’s wife, Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, was born in 1947 to a religious and influential family in the religious city of Mashhad, Iran.
Her father was a well-known businessman, while her brother, Hassan Bagherzadeh, was also the deputy head of Iran’s state broadcaster.
Mansoura Khojasta Baqirzada married Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in 1965, and they have four sons and two daughters.
