MAKKAH: “A man jumped from the upper floor of the Grand Mosque (Masjid Al Haram) in Makkah, Saudi Arabia,” said the Ministry of Interior on Wednesday.

According to Special Force for Grand Mosque Security Sources, security personnel reacted immediately to the event. A member of the security force was injured while trying to prevent the detainee from hitting the floor during the fall.

According to authorities, the man and the injured policeman were taken to a hospital for treatment, and all legal requirements were fulfilled.

According to a government statement, the incident was related to someone attempting to take his own life from the top levels of the mosque. The forces reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of devotees at the holy site.

While commenting on this event, the Chief Imam of the Grand Mosque, Sheikh Dr. Abdur Rahman As-Sudais, requested that pilgrims respect the holy site and its rituals.

He highlighted that saving human life is among the major aims of Islamic law, supported by a Quranic verse: “And do not throw yourselves into destruction with your own hands.”
