TEHRAN: Tremors were felt in parts of southern Iran on Tuesday, sparking rumors on social media that Iran may have conducted a nuclear test. Authorities and experts, however, have confirmed no such detonation occurred.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded the earthquake near Khonj in Fars province, measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale.
The tremor struck in the morning local time at a depth of 10 kilometers, with the epicenter located about 55 kilometers north-northwest of Garash, a largely rural area.
Officials emphasized that the seismic activity was a natural earthquake and dismissed any connection to nuclear activity. Social media speculation continues, but there is currently no verified evidence linking the tremor to a nuclear test.
Geologists continue to monitor the region, assuring residents that such earthquakes, while noticeable, are typical for the area and do not indicate unusual activity.
