Pakistan, Norway sign MoU to open Global Maritime Jobs for sailors

ISLAMABAD: A significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Pakistan and Norway on training and certification of naval personnel, after which Pakistani sailors will be eligible to work on Norwegian flagged ships.

Officials of the Pakistani Embassy and the Norwegian Maritime Authority signed the documents at a ceremony held in the Norwegian capital Oslo. The aim of this agreement is to recognize the training of Pakistani naval personnel as per international standards and provide them with access to the global shipping market.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry welcomed the agreement and said that it will provide excellent international employment opportunities for Pakistani youth and strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Experts say that the inclusion of Pakistani personnel in the Norwegian Merchant Navy will not only enhance the reputation of the country’s fleet but will also bring in a lot of foreign exchange to the country.
