Punjab unveils Pakistan’s first AI powered driving test car

LAHORE: The government of Punjab has launched Pakistan’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered driving test car.

The AI car has been specially designed at the instruction of the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz.

This car will help in conducting the driving test more transparently, fully automated, and free from human influence.

The car is equipped with modern tools and sensors, which will automatically evaluate the performance of the candidates, DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir said.

A biometric fingerprint scanner and a facial recognition camera are installed inside the car, while four external cameras capture driving behavior during the test.

The system begins automatically as soon as the applicant sits in the vehicle, offering test instructions, a countdown clock, and safety feature checks for the seatbelt and handbrake.

Additionally, if a candidate puts himself in reverse gear more than once, the AI-powered system can immediately proclaim a failure.

Lahore will see the initial deployment of the AI-powered driving test vehicle. According to officials, 200 of these cars would be produced this fiscal year and sent to licensing facilities around Punjab.
