ISLAMABAD: The federal government is considering lifting the ban on new domestic LNG connections if liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from Qatar improve, according to media reports.
Reports indicate that Qatar suspended LNG supplies to several international markets following attacks on LNG production facilities during the US-Iran conflict. The force majeure declared in the aftermath of the disruption has reportedly been extended until the end of August 2026.
Media reports suggest that authorities are reviewing the LNG supply situation and may restore domestic LNG connections once the force majeure period ends and supplies return to normal levels.
If the supply situation improves as expected, the ban on domestic LNG connections could be lifted by September, allowing consumers to apply for new connections again.
The government suspended new domestic LNG connections in May after disruptions in LNG supplies raised concerns about maintaining adequate gas availability for existing consumers.
