Income Tax return filing starts across Pakistan

FBR announces major appointments, transfers in Inland Revenue Service

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has formally started receiving annual income tax returns for the current tax year. Taxpayers can submit their returns from today, while the last date has been set for September 30, 2026.

The FBR has urged taxpayers to enter income, expenses and other financial details correctly and completely in their returns so that they do not face any problems later.

According to sources, under the Income Tax Ordinance, the FBR is authorized to scrutinize the returns submitted. Since the institution has access to various government databases, information about taxpayers’ property, bank accounts, vehicles, travel records and other financial matters is also available.

Sources say that under the special scheme introduced for small traders, about 3 million traders are expected to register this year, which is expected to further expand the tax net.
