KARACHI: Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, has introduced a fifty percent cut in port charges at Karachi Port to minimize the carbon footprint of trade logistics and ensure sustainable growth.
Addressing a statement, the Minister stated that the move is part of a larger plan to decarbonize the maritime sector and enhance energy efficiency in port operations.
The Minister pointed out that these reforms are part of national policy to advance port infrastructure modernization, increase sustainability, and shift towards smart maritime operations.
He also reiterated his resolve to align the maritime industry with international environmental standards.
Earlier in a different development, the Sindh government decided to construct an expressway from Karachi Port terminal to Jam Sadiq Bridge here.
The project was approved in a meeting of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Board, held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
“The 12.5-kilometer part of the road will be above the ground and the rest below it,” the chief minister said. “Expressway from KPT terminal will link with Malir Expressway at Jam Sadiq bridge.”.
The CM instructed the Sindh Department of Local Government to prepare the project with the PPP unit. “The government will construct the road on a PPP model from its resources,” the chief minister stated.
