NHA collects only 13% of toll taxes, Plans to refine collection process

Major highways, motorways closed ahead of peace talks

Islamabad: National Highway Authority (NHA) Chairman Arshad Majeed Mohmand revealed that the agency currently collects only 13% of toll taxes from its highways.

During a briefing with Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, Mohmand outlined plans to refine the collection process and proposed short- and long-term policies.

The minister emphasized the need to eliminate corruption and incompetence within the NHA, suggesting that private sector involvement could improve revenue collection in challenging areas.

Minister Abdul Aleem directed the NHA to set annual revenue targets, adopt a self-reliance policy, and utilize its resources and expertise to become financially independent.

Moreover, he prioritized developing a modern transportation network, creating a business model compatible with global standards, and offering expert services to other countries to generate foreign exchange.

Additionally, he announced plans to construct high-quality highways and motorways, with a minimum of six lanes, and identified key projects, including the Karachi to Sukkhar and Sialkot to Islamabad routes, as top priorities for the NHA.
