ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will export 125,000 tonnes of mangoes this season, according to the Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Association (PFVA), which has announced the export target.

According to PFVA Chairman Waheed Ahmed, mango exports will begin on May 25, and they are expected to generate foreign exchange earnings of $100 million.

Mango production is anticipated to reach 1.44 million tonnes this season. Pakistan also looks forward to a new market in South Africa, as a delegation of South African quarantine experts is expected to visit Pakistan this season.

Special attention will also be paid to the Turkish and Chinese markets, while also continuing to work on trade relations with Japan, Australia, the United States, and South Korea.

The PFVA has asked the government to take notice of the exorbitant and unwarranted additional freight charges imposed by shipping lines.
