Punjab & KP to face petrol shortage due supply chain disruption

Traders reject smart lockdown, demand petrol at Rs250

LAHORE: The ongoing protests by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have disrupted the supply chain of petroleum products, raising concerns over fuel shortages in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association Chairman Abdul Sami Khan said that supply to petrol pumps in both provinces has been suspended due to road closures. “There are reports of petrol and diesel running out at some pumps. The government should take immediate steps to ensure uninterrupted supply,” he stressed, adding that tankers are unable to reach Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

While Sindh is relatively unaffected, Punjab and KP are facing a growing crisis, with several vehicles stranded and petrol availability dwindling. There are reports that several vehicles are stranded due to road closures, which could lead to petrol shortages in different parts of Punjab.

The situation is particularly worrying in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Lahore, where the ongoing protests have badly affected the supply chain. “We urge the authorities to resolve this issue immediately to prevent a complete fuel crisis,” Khan added.
