ISLAMABAD: With 47 universities earning places among Asia’s top research institutions, Pakistan’s higher education industry has reached a noteworthy milestone in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2025.
Maintaining its reputation, Quaid-i-Azam University is at the top of the country, and several other universities are making significant progress; the rankings demonstrate the expanding regional prominence of Pakistani universities.

Furthermore, 47 institutions were designated as “reporters,” indicating that they provided data but did not fit the requirements for a formal rating.
Using 18 performance categories that include teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and global outlook, the THE Asia University Rankings 2025 examine 853 universities in 35 countries.
According to the rankings, Pakistan is tied with Taiwan for 14th place worldwide and is the sixth most represented country in Asia. This continues a consistent rising trend from 29 in 2023, 21 in 2022, and 16 in 2021, and represents a 17.5% gain over the 40 rated universities from the previous year.
