LAHORE: Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz has announced the expansion of the provincial laptop scheme to include students enrolled in private universities, a major step towards wider access to digital education.
In a statement issued on the occasion of World Education Day, the chief minister said that education is a right, not a privilege, and stressed the government’s commitment to support students in all sectors.
She said that Punjab was already providing free laptops to students of public sector universities and has now decided to extend this facility to students of private universities.
Under the expanded scheme, private university students who have secured at least 65 percent marks will be eligible to apply for free laptops. The move aims to promote digital inclusion in higher education institutions across the province, expand learning opportunities and support academic performance.
The Punjab government has opened applications for the scheme, allowing eligible students to submit their details online. Students can apply through the official portal at cmlaptophed.punjab.gov.pk.
