Pakistani students eye long weekend as Eid Milad-un-Nabi nears

Punjab announces austerity measures, suts salaries and fuel budget

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s students may be in for a treat with a potentially long weekend on the horizon. The Central Ruet Hilal Committee is convening on September 4 to see the moon for the Islamic month of Rabiul Awal.

If the moon is spotted, September 5 will mark the beginning of Rabiul Awal, and Eid Miladun Nabi, commemorating, the Prophet’s (PBUH) birth anniversary, will fall on September 16, on Monday.

As this coincides with the regular weekend closures on September 14 and 15, students could enjoy a three-day break from September 14 to 16.

However, if the moon is not sighted, Eid Miladun Nabi will be celebrated on September 17, a Tuesday, and the long weekend will not materialize.
