Punjab likely to announce early summer vacations amid heat wave

Punjab yet to decide on summer vacations as holiday cut proposal under review

LAHORE: The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued early summer vacation recommendations for schools due to the power of the heatwave currently engulfing Pakistan.

In a notice directed to the Department of School Education, the Department of Higher Education, and the authoritys inspectors, PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia outlined this plan in the event of extreme temperatures.

For the safety of students, the PDMA has issued a list of precautions for school and college faculty and administrators to implement. These measures included having continuous access to cool drinking water, making students wear light clothing, and immediately banning outdoor activities when excessive heat conditions arise.

In addition to these recommendations, schools were asked to maintain classrooms that provided adequate air flow, and working air conditioning units and fans.

The PDMA highlighted the suggestion to create first aid stations or counters in schools with staff trained and equipped to help students if any problems arose due to a heatwave and to stay in continuous communication with District Disaster Management Authorities to relay information as needed.

With this in place, the government intends to ensure each students safety and pride against the heatwave.
