Punjab private schools oppose govt’s winter vacation schedule

Punjab govt may cut summer vacations in educational institutes

LAHORE: The Private Schools Association, has voiced concerns and asked that the amount of holidays be reevaluated by the authorities. To combat the persistent pollution problem and cold weather, the Punjab government intends to declare winter vacations in December.

The proposed holidays, according to District Education Authority officials, are intended to reduce health concerns brought on by the severe smog, especially in the Potohar region and Murree, where the quality of the air has declined.

Punjab’s Secretary of Schools, Khalid Nazir Watoo, declared that the government’s plan calls for a 20-day sabbatical that will end on January 10, 2025. The plan has drawn criticism from Abrar Ahmed Khan, president of the All Pakistan Private Schools Association for North Punjab.

He maintained that extended summer breaks, closures brought on by smog, and public demonstrations have already caused disruptions to the school year.

In order to minimize the disruption to students’ education, he suggested cutting the break to just 10 days, beginning on January 1.
