Punjab to privatize low-enrolment schools after Eid ul Fitr

Punjab winter vacations schedule for colleges announced

LAHORE: The third phase of the Punjab government’s school privatization drive is set to begin after Eid-ul-Fitr, targeting government schools with 100 or fewer students.

As per the media reports, these institutions will be handed over to private owners as part of efforts to streamline the education sector.

The education ministry has directed district education officers and heads of district education authorities in all 43 districts to compile lists of eligible schools.

Many of these schools are in rural villages, while some are located in urban areas, especially primary schools with low enrolment.

Officials say the move is aimed at reducing the financial burden on the government by transferring under-utilised schools to private management. However, the decision is expected to spark a debate over its impact on students and access to education in the affected areas.
