Scam alert: HEC warns against Scammers offering degree attestation services

ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has issued a public alert warning against fraudulent activities by imposters claiming affiliation with the organization.

These scammers are making fake calls to extract personal information for the attestation or re-verification of academic documents, demanding hefty fees for degree verification services that exceed the standard HEC charges.

To avoid falling victim to these scams, remember that HEC does not authorize any representatives or agents to handle attestation services. They also don’t make direct calls or contact individuals for these services.

How to Verify Degrees Safely

  •  Use the Official HEC Attestation Portal: Visit their portal to verify your degrees.
  • HEC Website: You can also check the HEC website at ( www.hec.gov.pk.) for more information.

Reporting Scam Calls

  • Telecom Operators: Report scam calls to your telecom operator.
  • Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA): Lodge a complaint through their website (www.pta.gov.pk) or call the toll-free number 0800-55055.
  • State Bank of Pakistan: If you’ve been a victim of financial fraud, contact them at [email protected].

Stay cautious and avoid sharing personal information with unauthorized persons or through fake online platforms. Always verify the authenticity of services before proceeding.
